April 24th, 2008—Sustainability is a hot topic/phrase right now, so Beer & Politics brings out a panel to talk about it.
First off, what is sustainable building? What costs are involved? How does it help the environment? Second, what can the average person do to live a sustainable lifestyle?
This month’s panel includes Vice-Mayor Bonnie Lowenthal, Assistant City Manager Suzanne Frick, plus more. Come on out, hear about the city’s plan to build green, hear about the cost implications, find out more about the new Sustainability Commission, and drink a beer.

Suzanne Frick: Suzanne Frick became Asst. City Manager of Long Beach in December 2007 after serving as the City’s Director of Planning & Building for more than 2 & 1/2 years.

community service. One of her earliest jobs was as a Park Ranger in Yellowstone National Park. Suzanne worked in the Santa Monica Planning Department for more than 21 years, serving for 11 years as the Director of Planning & Community Development. Suzanne reorganized the Long Beach Department of Planning & Building, improving customer service and streamlining operations.
As Assistant City Manager for the City of Long Beach, her impressive background and exemplary management skills will help the City run as smoothly, efficiently and environmentally friendly as possible as Long Beach continues to grow.
.Bonnie Lowenthal: Bonnie Lowenthal was elected in 2001 to City Council for the 1st district. She was selected by her peers on the City Council as Vice Mayor in July 2006. Prior to her election to the City Council, she served on the LB Board of Education for seven years. |

Councilmember Lowenthal is strongly committed to economic development, environmental protection, more parks and green space, historic preservation, gang intervention, and well a maintained infrastructure.
Lowenthal believes strongly in community activism and has served on the boards of many Long Beach organizations.
Vice-Mayor Lowenthal has two adult sons, Josh and Dan (married to Suja) and one grandson, Avinash. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from the U. of Wisconsin and a Master’s from CSULB. Since 1975, Lowenthal has been a licensed family counselor and mental health consultant.
